Elements such as passive solar and natural lighting (skylights and strategic window placement), high performance windows, low-flow fixtures and CFL and LED lighting are simple and accessible ways to make a kitchen look better and work smarter. And, of course, by installing Energy Star-rated appliances, homeowners can use 10 to 50 percent less energy and water than other models.
